“3rd Sanifruit Chem-free day: Get ahead of postharvest’s future”

As it is usual, every two years Sanifruit summons the produce sector to a free informative event in which to discuss chem-free postharvest and the different challenges that agriculture has ahead from the point of view of sustainability.

The pandemic did not allow us to hold the day in 2020, and we are very excited to be able to share with the sector again a whole morning of learning, innovation, science and sustainability.

In this third edition, we will have researchers and representatives of the different actors involved in the fresh produce supply chain.

The event will be opened with a first presentation by Dr.  Elena Costa, researcher at the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), a company attached to the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and Natural Environment, whose mission is to contribute to the modernization, improvement and promotion of competitiveness, sustainable development of the food sector, and that will explain how post-harvest fungi affect stone fruit, pome fruit and citrus fruits.

Afther it, will come Dr. Mª José Fabra of CSIC-IATA, the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology belonging to the Higher Council for Scientific Research dedicated to research in biotechnology, conservation, quality and food science in the Valencian Community, who will talk about edible coatings.

We will also have the assistance of Dr. Nicolás Olea University professor at the University of Granada, recognized expert in lines of research in Health and Environment, author of the book “Free yourself from toxics and expert in endocrine disruptors, will clarify the reality we live in the face of hormonal pollutants found in fungicides and insecticides.

Dr. Antonieta de Cal Researcher at the National Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (CSIC-INIA) will show us how we can avoid resistance to phytosanitary products.

Finally we will have in a very interesting round table of discussion with prestigious actors of the private and public sector in the food chain such as Jaume Vercher, CEO of Frutas Tono;  Stephan Rötzer, CEO of Sanlucar;  Fernando Moner, President of AVACU;  Javier Arizmendi, COO of Zerya and David Torres, General Director of Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition of the GVA; The round table will be moderated by Raquel Fuertes, director of the magazine Valencia Fruits, which will discuss how we can achieve a more sustainable agriculture.
